It is with great pride and a deep sense of purpose that the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) presents the  inaugural  issue  of  the  JCPSP  Postgraduate.  This is a dedicated platform to foster and showcase the academic and research  endeavours  of  postgraduate  trainees  of  the  College.

The enduring commitment of CPSP’s Fellows has been central to its sustained progress and standing. These true pillars of the institution—through their feedback, and steadfast support— continue to propel the College forward. The past year, in particular, has been marked by transformative achievements in academic excellence, institutional restructuring, and capacity building, all under the visionary guidance of the current Council.

Today, CPSP offers 89 fellowship programmes, reflecting the breadth and evolution of its academic framework. In line with global standards, the training curricula have undergone critical revisions to ensure relevance, rigour, and responsiveness to the changing landscape of healthcare. New fellow- ships programmes have been introduced, and a structured faculty development program has been launched, featuring focused workshops on professional behaviour and ethical standards—key pillars of postgraduate training, as the competence  of  faculty  is  ultimately  reflected  in  their  trainees.

Significant reforms have also been introduced in research training. Research workshops have been restructured to include pre- and post-assessments, fostering measurable learning outcomes and ensuring active trainee participation. Research must be mindful of ethical practice. The College has reinforced its commitment to medical ethics, weaving these principles throughout all learning modules. In a progressive and major academic shift, the traditional requirement of a dissertation or two research articles' optional submission has now been replaced with an original research article submission encouraging a more scholarly and publication-oriented research culture. This would encourage the trainees to publish in scholarly journals and give them a solid base for starting  their  post-fellowship  career.

Amidst these developments, the launch of the JCPSP Post- graduate represents another strategic step toward academic excellence, as there is a marked disparity between the numbers of fellowship trainees enrolled at CPSP, the number of recognised journals and the possibility of predatory practices. This indigenous journal offers an accessible and timely avenue for the CPSP trainees to publish their work, fulfilling an essential requirement for examination while also contributing to the wider body of medical knowledge. It embodies the College’s commitment to fostering a culture of research,  critical  inquiry,  and  scholarly  communication.

CPSP continues to raise the national flag high in the field of postgraduate medical education, not only within Pakistan but across the region. As you open the pages of this new journal, we reaffirm our mission: To nurture ethical, competent, and service-driven medical specialists and researchers—leaders who will shape the future of healthcare both locally and globally.

With this inaugural issue, we invite our readers to engage, contribute, and grow with us as we advance the frontiers of postgraduate  medical  education  together.
